There has been a major rockfall at the Etive Slabs in Glen Etive. The rockfall was reported earlier in the week on the UKC Forums by eroica64, and we now have full details.
Chris Hague from the shop Mountain Intelligence in Leeds was at the crag when the fall occurred last Thursday:
“We were on the last pitch of Spartan Slab, when we heard a massive noise below. We looked down and there was a huge dust cloud and smell of cordite coming up the crag on the updraft.”
Several tonnes of rock came away from one of the overlaps below the first belay of Spartan Slab, smashing directly on to the Coffin Stone - a large rock at the base of the crag that is a popular gearing up spot.
“It was a good job it wasn't a weekend,” said Chris, “some of the rock landed directly on the Coffin Stone, some bounced over it, but what I also realised was lots of razor-sharp shards of rock showered the area with shrapnel.”

Sony doesn't really make powerhouse computers, but seriously with this system at it's price could of been a lot nicer. I know what you all are thinking. This is going to be some hate review that busts on this poor machine, but it's not. I just want to let everyone know what they are in store for when they purchase this notebook. Sony is one of the leading manufacturer's of electronics, and computers are definitely one of there high points now a days. The look is what catches most people's eyes when they first see a Sony Computer. First things first. The thin and light feel of the S260 is what makes this a nice system. At a little over 4 pounds, you can't go wrong. Now with this light feel to it, comes the limited hardware. How much hardware do you think this system can handle with it's 4 pound base? The S260 lacks graphics, so any gamer would have a very hard time playing games on even the lowest settings. This wouldn't be the kind of computer you would want to give your highly active gamer of a grandson, let's put it that way. If you are going to college or a new job, this is probably a good machine for that, as it runs on a Pentium M processor at 1.7 GHZ, which is very good for this chipset. Of course with the lighter laptops that feature the Centrino or Mobile technology, comes complete with a four hour minimum battery life, which happens to be great for anyone traveling, etc. Taking a look at the graphics though, really disappoints me. 32 MB of video RAM is horrible and embarassing. Computers over five years ago had this amount of RAM, and even though this machine wasn't built for the high end gamer, 64 could of been the minimum. At 1280 x 800 resolution, there is not much to view on the 13 inch widescreen. Sure the visuals are nice when you are using Native Resolution, but don't get overly excited, because at 114 pixels per inch at 32 MB's isn't too shabby. Watching a movie, or just using the computer at it's minimum is fine, but anything over active would be too much for the S260. Going into the sound very briefly. Sony didn't do too bad on there speakers. The sound doesn't distort when you turn it up loud. It just lacks some bass, so if you want to put some boom into the music, this wouldn't work too well. Connections are simple, yet some are available that aren't for most lightweight computers. The S260 features two USB 2.0 ports, a 56 K modem, and an Ethernet port, that all come covered for protection when purchased. The S260 comes prebuilt with one PCI Card slot, which normally is limited to two, but is limited to one this time, which was kind of weird. The laptop comes with a Firewire port, which is very nice. A lot of laptops do not have Firewire capability, which add's points to the S260. Another neat entertainment feature is the six pin port that allows you to connect a camcorder or such to it, so digital editing, etc is not a problem. I liked this a lot, and it really made me look at this system. The system ships with XP Home Edition, which in my opinion is the weaker version of professional, but that's just me. Home just doesn't give me the kind of condition I like in an OS, so Professional should have been the main OS. A top point that gives Sony a great reputation is the service they offer. I don't care what anybody says, Sony is probably the best in service. Dell really didn't too well in the service field, Compaq or HP has limited service, but Sony is just great. You can call up customer service, and they will have an answer for you every time. I like that in Sony, and always have, so keep up the good work there. Getting back to hardware information, the S260 is prebuilt with a RAM slot filled with 512 MB of RAM backed by a 333 MHZ bus. That is pretty nice in a system like this, as there really isn't a lot of power to use. At 1.7 GHZ, you can't really burn out a machine like this, so there is more than enough RAM in this baby to get you going where you need to go. Average processor speed for a Pentium M processor is 1.5 GHZ, and the leading brand goes up to around 2.0 GHZ, with that not being really needed with 512 MB of RAM backing you up, it still makes some sort of difference. 1.7 GHZ is fine for the Sony S260, and I didn't see any problems when running the OS, and any programs along with it. All in all the S260 is a nice system set packed for the average computer user. If you want to play games, I highly recommend another system, but if you are off to college, or using this for work or just an around the house laptop, this is a machine fit for you. 7 out 10 is my rating for this.

It is not just the US where the Apple iPad is being picked up like hot cakes. Out there in Asia, Japan to be precise, the Apple tablet is set to make waves in a major manner. The arrival of the tablet has in fact impacted the notebook market as a whole. A survey on how the iPad will perform in the Japanese market has revealed that the device which was launched in Japan on May 28 – just a few days ago - has helped Apple to eclipse home grown major Sony by a mile.
The survey, by Tokyo-based market research firm BCN has found that the iPad as been driving Apple’s share of the domestic notebook market and the numbers have more than tripled in May on a month-to-month basis and touched the 11.5% mark. Japan’s handset market had earlier itself welcomed the iPhone with enthusiasm and the survey results say that the iPad is set to replicate this success.
BCN banked on POS data collected from among 2,364 electronics retailers in Japan and found that the Apple share in that segment stood at just 3.5% in April.However, as soon as the iPad launched on May 28, the company overtook Sony, which at 9.3per cent, declined to No. 5 in the notebook sales ranking. It has been revealed that the iPad has been selling about three times faster than the iPhone did in the first ten days of unveiling in the Japanese market.
The notebook market, in the meanwhile, continues to be dominated by Toshiba, Fujitsu and NEC in the first three slots respectively. However, with the new Apple device coming in, the whole scene seems like going through a shake up.

Making a photo montage in Microsoft Publisher can be fun and simple with just a few quick steps, creativity and imagination to help you along the way. Your photo montage should first of all match in theme and can be designed in numerous ways. Most photo montages always have a picture that is the center of attention, followed with smaller pictures around it. Why make one? Why not? Montages are great snapshots of special events or everyday memories you catch. From birthdays, proms, weddings, Fourth of July events to the first time your child eats solid foods montages can bring a variety of memories together in one place to share for eternity. Making a simple montage with Microsoft Publisher:
1. Open up Microsoft Publisher and figure out what style of board you want, whether horizontal or vertical. Template design choices? You can find them by clicking on publication designs to pick one.
2. Your main picture, the center of attention - For this montage we'll start with five photos. First place the picture in the middle of the board by clicking on the picture. You should be able to edge it over with your arrow keys or simply drag it over by holding down on your mouse. Now, to make your montage defined, you should make this picture the biggest of the five. You grab the corner of the image and hold the mouse down to do this. This will be the one you want everyone to look at first and come back to when they're done looking at the rest of them.
3. Position-For the rest of the images, place the second image above the main image, centering it. Next place the third image to the right of the main image, centering that one as well. The fourth image should go to the left of the main image, while the fifth image will go below the main image.
4. Give them borders- Click on a pic and on the picture tool bar click on a border (and border color) to apply to the image. Black, for me, has always been a favorite cause it's a powerful color, but you can use others. I make my borders nothing less than 1.75 pts so it doesn't look silly and take away from the picture.
5. Backgrounds-Here's where I get really picky because the last thing you want to do is select a background that takes away from your pictures. You don't want people complimenting your background and say nothing about your pictures! I usually go with a solid background, or a background that matches my montage. If I were going to do a wedding montage, I'd go with something along that theme, and so forth. So, to place your background click FORMAT and then BACKGROUND to bring up the background palette. Choose what you want and hit enter.
6. Title your montage- This may be my second most detailed part because you want to pick a font that matches what you're doing. No worries though– In your menu above you can see what each font looks like so it will be easy to choose! Once you've looked them over click INSERT and then hit TEXT BOX, afterwards drawing it on the board. You can pretty much have a Microsoft word flashback at this point because the menu speaks for itself. You have your formatting, the font, and size all up there for you to choose from. In the montage we're making, you can put text to the right and left of the top photo above your main photo, and vice versa at the bottom. Here are some fonts I usually pick: Monotype Corsiva, Times New Roman (Bold, Italics), Eurostar Black Extended, Peinaud, and Impact Bold (sometimes with italics)
Saving your montage
Once you've completed it, check it over and make sure everything is where you want it and in FILE hit SAVE AS. I usually save my work as .JPEG because it's just easier that way.
Presenting your montage
Once you print it out, pick a frame that will match your fantastic creation. If it's about weddings, staple ruffles around your frame to signify the event, or place Halloween decorations around it if you've got some ghosts and goblins for a montage. Make it as original as possible and I'm sure you'll get a lot of feedback that will contain the memories of each picture you've chosen in your montage.

The Kardashian sisters are temporarily shedding their signature, brunette locks for a photo shoot with Beach Bunny Swimwear. Wearing blonde wigs and pink bathrobes, they had a little fun posing for pictures while they were still in hair and makeup. There weren't many backstage pictures of Kim, but Kourtney and Khloe definitely looked cute. Acer doesn't have a big time name like Sony, Apple, or HP but they have been around a while and if you know much about the technology industry they're not a new name to you. They've been around as long as I have been computing; in fact I remember when they were the first manufacturer to produce a black colored PC. Before Acer came along all PC's were that ugly gray color for the most part. So if you're concerned about the brand name, don't any more concerned than you would be with an HP, Sony or whatever Acer is established and make a quality product, this laptop is no exception.
The first thing you notice about this little budget priced notebook is how well built it is. It is extremely robust and the Acer Aspire 5720-4649 feels like a brick. Unfortunately it's about as heavy as a brick. But if you're not going to be treating your notebook with much respect then this is a good option for you, its robust. It also runs quite cool, meaning that you can leave it on and in sleep mode in its bag without concerning yourself with it burning up.
This Acer Aspire 5720-4649 notebook's display cranks away at a resolution of 1280 x 800. The CrystalBright display offers fairly good clarity with limited glaring. It is a little difficult to see in the direct sunlight. It gets a little washed out if you're using the laptop outside. Other than that it looks performs pretty standard.
The notebook is a little underpowered but if you limit your multitasking you won't be bothered too much by it. The integrated graphics card means you want be playing to many graphic intensive games however it performs fine for everyday tasks. You'll be able to watch plenty of movies, and play around with home videos to an extent. The hard drive at 160 GB is adequate for this notebook's price range. I did find however that 1 GB of ram is not enough. You'll need to expect to perform an upgrade if you want to do much at all. Windows Vista is a fairly intensive platform to be running and 1 GB of ram just isn't cutting it. Especially considering the integrated graphics card shares the on board ram as its Video ram. Alright enough about the hardware lets talk about the connectivity.

For the price range im surprised at the connectivity options. It has 4 USB ports which is 1 more than what I would consider standard. They're also well placed, sides and back. The firewire port is nice but I don't know if its really needed. With the integrated graphics card and single GB of ram I wouldn't expect to do much intensive video editing but it might be fun to play around with, just don't expect to do too much without some considerable lag. It is missing Bluetooth which I would like to see in any notebook but you can easily add this with a USB adaptor.
All together the Acer Aspire 5720-4649 available at under $600 is perfect for the all business notebook user or the notebook user on a budget. It would also be great for students that aren't interested in gaming, but mostly school work as well as the occasional movie, DVD burning session or CD burning session.

Every few months Apple fans rush to websites like Engadget.com or Gizmodo.com just to refresh the page. Why are they doing this? They are trying to experience the magic that comes from the new hardware and software updates from Steve Jobs and the good people at Apple. Today's magic started early this morning. If you launched iTunes to listen to the new Justin Timberlake before going to the office you will have seen that Mac Store was down. The only message posted up was “It's Showtime” Ss that left us all wondering what Steve Jobs had to say today. And today was no expectation of exciting and new announcements for the iPod line and the iTunes store.
First up Steve Jobs talked about how Apple was currently doing. They are current the #5 seller of music in the and they have sold over 1.5 billion songs from the iTunes store since its launch. Just about anyone who breathes in the country owns an iPod and now Apple has teamed up with car manufactures allowing you to be able to use your iPod in your car. Over 70% of the new cars coming out will have easy iPod hook up features. This isn't a good sign for the radio as most people listen to the radio in their cars. iPod has also become of the best fitness selling products as of late with its new partnership with Nike. In just 90 over 450,000 unites of the Nike +iPod Sport Kits have been sold.
Steve Jobs kept it rolling with iPod enhancement features. First the screens will be brighter, you be able to search for music via a tiny keyboard like pop-up, and you'll be able to download games to your iPod. Zuma, Texas Holden, Mini Golf, Cubis 2, PacMan, Tetris! and many more titles will be available from the iTunes store at a cheap price of only $4.99. The next major announcement came to the iTunes store and the new version of iTunes 7, which you can download right now. The new iTunes store will now feature high resolution video. Currently video was only encoded at 320×240. But they've bumped up the resolution now to 640×480 so you'll get a nice crisp and clean picture on your iPod w/ Video. iTunes 7 now has MOVIES! But unfortunately Apple doesn't have major studio support for this effort yet. Only 70 movies are available on iTunes 7 right now and most of them are from Disney owned properties. The most notable movie is Pirates of the Caribbean. Movies will go for $12.99 for a new movie and other movies will be priced at $9.99. Movies will take 30 minutes to download over a broadband connect. Steve Jobs also have a sneek peek at a new Apple product called iTV. The new product will let you enjoy your media on any TV that it's connected to.
So overall the new announcements from Apple where worth the wait but will everyone go bonkers to wait 30 minutes to download a movie for $12.99? Only time well tell, but Steve Jobs and Apple have been extremely successful over the past years with the introduction of the iPod to the world so if their track record continues we will see Apple get bigger and better over the years to come. And there was a special surprise at the end of the conference when R&B star and 3 time Grammy winner John Legend performed his new single “Save Room.”

Sony's ambitions in the tablet field may have been partly spoiled by a patent filing published on Thursday. The concept is on the surface a dual-touchscreen e-book reader but would change functions as it's rotated. On its side, the device could turn into a notebook with a keyboard below and and content up top.
The design could also have solar power on the outside and would fold up like a notebook. Aside from the extra energy source, it would in many ways follow the design of the now-defunct Microsoft Courier even though Sony had originally filed for the patent as far back as 2008.
As a patent, the Sony technology has no guarantee of making it to market. However, it confirms Sony's considering tablet designs in recent years and could be the template for a design should it decide to compete against the iPad. [via GoRumors]
Samsung has already released their 3D line of HDTVs and next up is Sony's Bravia series. To help push them, the electronics giant will certainly utilize the new 3D capability of the PlayStation 3 to get the message out.
According to 1Up, Sony decided to show off their fancy new 3D technology in Tokyo this weekend. And in addition to displaying "concerts and events featuring 3D footage being filmed live," they also provided attendees with a playable version of Gran Turismo 5 in 3D. Apparently, the game doesn't look any better (or worse) than when it wowed the crowds at TGS last year, but there was a bit of the standard 3D "pop-up" we've often seen in 3D presentations. Here's a portion of the analysis:
"Though 3D images can be hard to watch for a long period of time, GT5 was relatively easy to look at. This is thanks in large part to the game not using any strong depth of field effects. Often times the 3D image in a game or movie is broken when the viewer tries to examine an object that the camera is not focused on. The brain tries to process the object, but the eyes can't bring it into focus, creating an odd effect that causes headaches or nausea in some. All objects in GT5, regardless of location, are rendered without any post-processing blur, so no matter where we looked on the screen, we could focus easily."
This, plus the addition of the Recaro racing seat, should've provided them with one hell of a realistic driving experience. Furthermore, Sony was also showing off Wipeout HD, MotorStorm 2, and Killzone 2 in 3D; only the latter wasn't playable. We do know that games with 3D patches won't look as good as those designed specifically for the new dimension, though, so we'll be looking towards the future… Who plans to jump on board with this new technology in 2010?

The Crew won two matches this past week while the Galaxy won without two key players who were away with the National Team. The Western Conference remains very crowde with only six points separating 2nd place and 8th place. In the Eastern Conference, DC and Philadelphia remain at the bottom and don’t appear to be playoff contenders.
Toronto FC is off to a good start and could make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history while second year franchise Seattle Sounders FC is struggling. The MLS Power Rankings for Week 9 are below and through matches completed on Sunday, May 23, 2010.

- San Jose Earthquakes – Chris Wondolowski scored his 5th goal in 6 matches as the Earthquakes have won three of their last four matches. Frank Yallop is an early contender for MLS manager of the year but there’s still a lot of season left.
- Toronto FC – Preki is starting to make his mark on TFC as they won 1-0 against the Revolution Saturday. They are third in the Eastern Conference, undefeated at BMO Field, and have two clean sheets in a row.
- Seattle Sounders FC – Seattle are suffering the same problem as last season with only 9 goals scored in 10 matches. They are creating chances but can’t seem to convert any of them. A breakout win with 3 or 4 goals could turn things around.
- New York Red Bulls – The Red Bulls had a great start but are becoming inconsistent. They lost 1-3 against Columbus but should get some confidence from a 3-1 win over Juventus in a friendly.
- Colorado Rapids – A bye week for the Rapids who play the Sounders on Saturday.
- FC Dallas – A 0-1 loss at the Galaxy has FCD 7th in a very crowded Western Conference.
- Chicago Fire – A bye week for the Fire who will play two matches in the upcoming week (RSL & a friendly match against AC Milan).
- Kansas City Wizards – The Wizards lost against the Crew and only has eight goals in eight matches. Excluding their first week 4-0 win over DC United, KC has scored four goals in seven matches.
- Chivas USA – Chivas lost their fourth match in a row and now are in last place. They will have Sacha Kljestan back (from the USA National Team camp) but will be without defender Jonathan Bornstein (will be at World Cup).
- New England Revoution – The Revolution did get Shalrie Joseph back for Saturday’s match against TFC but lost 0-1. Even if they get healthy, it’s not clear if the club will make the playoffs this season.

- San Jose Earthquakes – Chris Wondolowski scored his 5th goal in 6 matches as the Earthquakes have won three of their last four matches. Frank Yallop is an early contender for MLS manager of the year but there’s still a lot of season left.
- Toronto FC – Preki is starting to make his mark on TFC as they won 1-0 against the Revolution Saturday. They are third in the Eastern Conference, undefeated at BMO Field, and have two clean sheets in a row.
- Seattle Sounders FC – Seattle are suffering the same problem as last season with only 9 goals scored in 10 matches. They are creating chances but can’t seem to convert any of them. A breakout win with 3 or 4 goals could turn things around.
- New York Red Bulls – The Red Bulls had a great start but are becoming inconsistent. They lost 1-3 against Columbus but should get some confidence from a 3-1 win over Juventus in a friendly.
- Colorado Rapids – A bye week for the Rapids who play the Sounders on Saturday.
- FC Dallas – A 0-1 loss at the Galaxy has FCD 7th in a very crowded Western Conference.
- Chicago Fire – A bye week for the Fire who will play two matches in the upcoming week (RSL & a friendly match against AC Milan).
- Kansas City Wizards – The Wizards lost against the Crew and only has eight goals in eight matches. Excluding their first week 4-0 win over DC United, KC has scored four goals in seven matches.
- Chivas USA – Chivas lost their fourth match in a row and now are in last place. They will have Sacha Kljestan back (from the USA National Team camp) but will be without defender Jonathan Bornstein (will be at World Cup).
- New England Revoution – The Revolution did get Shalrie Joseph back for Saturday’s match against TFC but lost 0-1. Even if they get healthy, it’s not clear if the club will make the playoffs this season.
- Philadelphia Union – A bye week for the Union who aren’t in too bad of shape with several home matches in the second half of the season. Their only results are at home and they play 13 of their 15 home matches starting June 27th.
- DC United – DC already looks out of the playoff race but it is only May. There’s not much more to say than only 4 goals scored, 18 conceded, and a 1-0-8 record.

That's why I'm lucky to have gotten my hands on a fine example of one in the HP Pavilion TX2110US 12.1″ laptop. This notebook has been wildly popular at online retails frequently entering best seller lists. That's why I've taken this opportunity to give one a test drive. I'll let you know how well it performs for me and if it is worth your hard earned dough.

Imaging: integrated 1.3 megapixel web cam (producing a photo a little better than a standard cell phone camera)
Processor: 64-bit 2.1 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 dual-core
Storage Space: 250GB hard drive
RAM: 3GB of RAM (this is an un-upgradable feature)
Optical Drive: a CD R/RW with integrated LightScribe dual-layer DVD +/- burning drive
Grapihcs Accelerator: Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics (using up to 527 MB of available video memory)
Dimensions: 8.8″ x 12.0″ x 1.5″ and weighs a measly 4.5lbs.
The best thing about this notebook is the great touch enabled screen. It is clean and crisp with a slightly glossy finish and the touch is accurate and easy to use. It is very compact and light at about 4.5lbs. You can really take this notebook anywhere. The notebook is powered by a wonderful 64 bit 2.1 GHz AMD processor and has plenty of memory. The RAM is adequate at 3GB and that maxes this notebook out. The graphics accelerator is excellent and will please most gamers and graphically minded individuals. The boot time is decent and I had no problems performing basic computing tasks on it.

1 Integrated 56K modem (so that this notebook can dial up an Internet connection)
The connectivity is great on such a small notebook. The 3 USB ports are 1 more than I typically see on a notebook this size and I love that. Ergonomically everything is placed naturally (for me anyway). This is reasonable for a laptop with these capabilities. This notebook would please most consumers especially those that need to take frequent notes or presentations. This notebook has an average online price of about $1100. If you can afford it, there is no reason to really hesitate on this one.
